If you want to enjoy a trip to Rome, you are more than likely wondering the best period to visit Rome. The best period to visit Rome by many is during the spring or autumn. Spring runs from March through May with autumn during the months of September through the middle of November. However, this is not when the majority of tourists arrive in Rome. The hottest months of the year is when Rome seems to see many tourist, which is during June, July, and August.
There seems to be more crowds of tourists during the tourist months however, the Romans know that during the extreme heat the best place to be is at the beach. You will not have as many places open and you may stroll around wondering what there is to see and do. The last two weeks of August are the hottest weeks of the year; however, for those that live in warmer climates, the heat will not deter you from enjoying the magnificent sights around Rome.
October is a cooler period to visit Rome, but you can expect a bit more rain than any other month of the year.
The best period to visit Rome would be during the off-season for various reasons. You will be able to find better prices on airfare, hotels, and of course, the sights will not be as crowded. The off-season is during the spring and summer, which really does not make much sense as the weather is perfect for all those outdoor adventures and exploring of the many unique historical sights such as the Roman Colosseum.
Many tourists do not wish to travel to Rome during the winter months; however, Rome has a unique atmosphere in the weeks just prior to Christmas. At the Piazza Navona, you will be delighted with the Christmas Fair as well as the beautiful lights and nativity scenes seen all over the place.
The best period to visit Rome is whenever you can plan a trip. During the hot season, you can always venture out with a tour guide in a private air-conditioned vehicle, visit more indoor sights, and of course enjoy browsing through the shops. During winter months, you can still stay warm by wearing a warm coat and doing more indoor activities as well.
The choice of the best period to visit Rome is really up to the person wishing to explore Rome. If they love the heat, the cold, or wish to arrive when the roses are in bloom in May is all a matter of preference.
